Favorite German Words
Die Gänsehaut = literally „goose skin“, as in goosebumps, goose flesh, horripilation, shivers. That feeling and physical skin reaction you get when you‘re either very cold or when someone or something gives you the creeps, the heebie-jeebies. Can sometimes be positive, like when you have a physical/sexual/love reaction to another person, but mostly used as above.
French: peau de l’oie, chair de poule [fig.]
Spanish: piel de gallina [fig.]
Italian: pelle d’oca [fig.]
Portuguese: pele arrepiada
