Eckernförde is a town in Schleswig-Holstein, Northern Germany, located on the Ostsee (Baltic Sea), 30 km northwest of Kiel. It’s a popular tourist destination in Northern Germany. The town had its first documentary mention in the year 1197. All German Navy submarines are stationed here. It also is the home of BEHN, an alcoholic beverage family company, founded in 1792, which, among other things produces the popular anise-flavored drink „Küstennebel“.
