Wangerooge is 1 of the 32 Frisian Islands in the North Sea close to the coasts of Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark. This island is part of the district of Friesland in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony), Northern Germany. It is attractive to visitors due to its nice long beaches, recreation facilities, and its relaxed atmosphere. An annual beach volleyball tournament, usually held at the beginning of August, is one of the main attractions in the summer. In addition, there is windsurfing, kite-surfing and board-riding. In order to guarantee a relaxed atmosphere, cars are prohibited on the island.
