Map postcard of Ostfriesland (East Frisia) with the islands. East Frisia is a coastal region in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony) in Northern Germany. It’s the middle section of Frisia between West Frisia in the Netherlands and North Frisia in Schleswig-Holstein. Administratively, it belongs to Aurich, Leer, Wittmund, and to the city of Emden. There are about half a million people living in the area. Off the coast, there’s a chain of islands called die Ostfriesischen Inseln. These are (west to east) Borkum, Juist, Norderney, Baltrum, Langeoog, Spiekeroog, and Wangerooge with nice beaches and hotels.
